Types of Behaviours of concern PBS targets

Type of BOC	Description
Verbal Aggression	Verbalizing of violence e.g. threatening to cause harm to self or others  Verbal abuse directed at others e.g. “fucking bastard”
Physical aggression	Towards objects e.g., “kicking and punching, biting others.”  Against self e.g., hitting their head with a closed fist.   Physical aggression toward objects (also known as property damage).
Inappropriate sexual behaviours	Sexual talk   Inappropriately touching others who do not want to be touched.  Exhibitionism – e.g. flashing of genitals or undressing in public.  Masturbation in public  Touching own self  Coercive sexual behaviour such as rape
Repetitive behaviour	Such as continued tapping, asking the same question repeatedly etc.  Continued persistent in touching, rubbing or scratching leading to skin irritation  Remaining in the shower too long   Any repetitive behaviour that causes harm to the person or others.
Wandering/Absconding	Going into prohibited areas but low risk of harm Wandering off without consideration of potential danger   A client wandering off without road safety awareness.   Escaping secure premises
Inappropriate Social Behaviour	Social awkward e.g., failure to monitor personal hygiene, standing too close to strangers or failure to pick up non-verbal cues.  Nuisance /annoyance to others   Non-compliant or oppositional behaviours  Petty crimes or oppositional behaviours  Presenting danger/risk to self or others
Reduced initiation	Difficulty getting tasks started or completed.   Having reduced motivation, initiative or interest in day-to-day activities  Refusal to take medication which further worsens their health
